Russia offers incentives such as free cars for people who choose to get a Covid-19 vaccine shot. In Moscow, cars worth more than ₹ 10 lakh are part of Giveaway to increase the slow vaccination rate in this country.
Sergei Sobyanin, Mayor of Moscow, made an announcement on Sunday, hoping to increase the rate of vaccination while people can go home a new car for free.
The mayor said that anyone over the age of 18 who got the first dose of Covid-19 vaccine from today 14 will now be automatically put into the draw to win the car. This unique scheme to attract people to get their Jab will continue until July 11.
In the next four weeks, at least five cars will be ready to be contested every week. Overall, around 20 vehicles tend to be given as part of the Moscow Mayor’s initiative to attract people to vaccination centers.
Moscow is one of the worst affected cities in Russia so far concerning Covid-19 cases. Russian capital recorded 7,704 new infections on Sundays, the most in one day since December 24. Overall, Russia reported 14,723 cases, the biggest total day since February 13.
Previously, Mayor Moscow had expressed his disappointment over several residents who chose to get vaccinations. Until May 21, only 1.3 million from more than 12 million populations had received a dose. Russia began launching Sputnik V shots in December and quickly opened for everyone in Moscow.
The mayor said Moscow tried to get thousands of emergency hospital beds for Covid-19 patients. Residents were also asked to continue working for this week to help curb the spread of the virus.
“This is only a temporary solution. To avoid new restrictions and secure an increase in sustainable situations, we need to accelerate vaccination,” said Mayor on the blog on Sunday.
