New Delhi: The Supreme Court today closed all criminal cases against two Italian marines accused of shooting dead two Indian fishermen from Kerala fees in 2012.
Said that Italy had to carry out his investigation and that India, Italy and Kerala had to work together, the Supreme Court directed that the compensation of RS.10 Crore provided by Italy must be transferred to the Kerala High Court.
The center has deposited this money with the Supreme Court registry.
The Kerala government has told the court that of ₹ 10 crore, ₹ 4 crore each to be paid to two families of victims and ₹ 2 crore to the destroyed ship owner.
The Supreme Court asked the Kerala High Court to nominate judges so that there was no abuse in the compensation distribution.
“We are satisfied with compensation and ex-gratia pay more and above before. This is a suitable case to cover all processes in India based on Article 142 of the Constitution,” said the Supreme Court today.
In the last trial, the court has said that these cases will be closed only if money is stored with the Supreme Court registry.
Two Italian Marines – Salvatore Girone and Massimiliano Latorre – Accused of killing two unarmed Indian fishermen off the coast of Kerala on February 15, 2012. Marines have filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the Kerala High Court decision that they can demand in Kerala.
Last year, the permanent arbitration court in Den Haag had argued that India did not have jurisdiction to carry out criminal proceedings against Italian and Italian marines having jurisdiction to investigate the incident. The court also directed Italy to pay compensation to the victim’s family.
